More About Marie Bookman
After renting one half of a “shot-gun” double house in the “uptown” area of the City, she faced her city by day and her demons by night!
It was during that time that some of her most emotional, raw, pure, explicit and graphic poetry (now published in her book entitled, “Breach of My Heart”) was written.
Although not written or intended for publication, at that time, after accumulating over 100 poems and viewing numerous photographs of the Ninth Ward and other areas of the City ( taken during and immediately after the storm by a close friend), Marie decided to self-publish her work, along with some of the photos which captured and/or complemented the imagery in her poems.
Many people, local and out of town, were very receptive to her first book, “Breach Of My Heart,” which is being sold at various local bookstores, including Hudson Bookstore at the New Orleans International Airport, Barnes & Nobles in Metairie, LA., Community Bookstore, A Tisket- A-Tasket Gift Shop in the French Quarter, Deville Bookstore on Common Street, the Ju Ju Bag Coffee Shop on Franklin Avenue, and several other shops in the New Orleans area.
Marie has done several readings of her work, including local bookstores, the Essence Festival Book Show (hosted in New Orleans, during the 2007 Essence Festival) and the Harlem Book Fair in New York in July, 2007. Her book has been advertised and/or mentioned in the Times Picayune Newspaper, the Weekly Newspaper and online.
